Full details below on our Sustaining Food conference, Saturday 22nd of October, 10-3pm at Elim Connect Centre. Last few tickets are available here.

9:30-10am - Arrive and register

10am - Opening talk: Dr Martin Caraher, our patron and Professor Emeritus Food and Health Policy, University of London

Workshops: Muller Room:

10:30 | Growing mental health. Hear about Seed of Hope's recovery based therapeutic horticulture projects, share your approaches and discuss ways to build in support for mental health in what you do.

11.20 | Redistributing food panel. Find out more about the work of community fridges, pantries and food banks, and discuss how projects are rising to current challenges, with advice if you want to set up your own project.

12:10 I Energy efficient Kitchen Tips. The Centre for Sustainable Energy will be sharing information and advice on energy efficiency in the kitchen, an interactive session with time for discussion and sharing ideas.

Foley Room / kitchen - we need your help with lunch preparation!

10:30 | Souper soups. Join Elim Connect chef Kean to cook up some seasonal soup for lunch. Kean knows how to put food surplus and local produce to good use when preparing large community meals at the centre.

11.20 | Fruity Foraged puds. Help Fresh n Good bake up some seasonal puds with foraged and windfall fruits, join the conversation about putting local fruit & wild harvest to good use, with advice on storing and preserving.

12:10 | Successful fermentation. Learn how to create a simple ferment with Feed Avalon and take a jar home to try, with advice and troubleshooting tips. N.B. Please bring a jar + root or leafy vegetables to shred if you can.

Hannah Moore Hall - marketplace activities from 10am:

Seed share - Lara from Skool Beanz will show you how to fold seed envelopes - please bring any spare / saved seeds to swap and share on the day!

Building healthy soil with Plotgate Community Farm - Jane will be on hand to offer advice with understanding and managing your soil health.

1pm - set the tables and sit down for lunch together. Followed by 'soap box' information share.

Finish at 3pm - please do help out with clear-down and washing up if you can!
