We have small grants available so you can support your community to grow their own food e.g. through a community seed swap or community growing activity.
Spring is around the corner and it’s the time of year that gardeners and growers sort their seeds and plan what they will grow. Spring is also a good time to run a community event focused on seed sharing, sowing and getting started with growing food. This includes seed and seedling swaps, there are several well-established seed swaps in both Frome and Glastonbury and others are emerging.
We know that growing your own food is rewarding in many ways and we would like to support community groups and initiatives who are educating and encouraging others to ‘grow your own’. This includes container or windowsill growing as well as those who have access to gardens or allotments.
We would therefore like to support new seed and growing events and activities to get started in Somerset this spring, by offering micro-grants to cover costs such as room hire or resources for your event.
Who can apply?
Small charities, CICs and community groups. We will prioritise groups in areas who don’t have access to established events and activities.
What can you use the money for?
You can use the grant to contribute to the costs of running a community event or activity which supports individuals to grow their own food, be that vegetables, fruit or herbs. We will not be supporting well-established events this time.
It can be used towards room hire for your event, or growing supplies to support people to start growing their own food etc.
How much can you apply for?
We expect small applications £25-75
