Location: Wookey Farm, Monks Ford, Wookey, Wells, BA5 1DT
What do you do? We are creating a garden which includes vegetable beds made, fruit trees and getting a polytunnel erected to expand the growing season. The aim is to supply fruit and vegetables to those at the farm, volunteers, as well as farm events (e.g. Somerset Food Trail). We hope to sell our produce in the farm shop and donate excess to good causes. We will combine knowledge from several approaches together, including permaculture principles, no dig and agroecological techniques, to make a productive space that is supporting nature.
People who come along will help with tasks such as helping maintain current beds, planting, making new beds, scything, DIY projects like compost bay making and whatever else is needed that morning. We always make time for a relaxed tea and biscuit break and people are welcome to work at whatever pace they can manage, so as to enjoy the space.
When do you meet? Every Thursday 8:30 – 11:30am, we meet by the farm shop at 8:30am but people can join anytime.
Who can join? All ages and backgrounds are welcome – no prior knowledge of land work is necessary, but any is appreciated, as well as tools and ideas on how to change the space.
Is there wheelchair access? Not currently and access into the plot itself is limited at the moment due to having to climb up to get in. Having said this, there are usually tasks that can be done outside of the plot itself, such as sowing seeds, tending to the small beds near to the farm shop or getting a plant stall established.
